Testing that Reaches the World
Motor Testing
Clark Testing offers motor testing services to our industrial customers with a full complement of capabilities. Our Motor Alternator (MA) test system is capable of static or dynamic testing of AC motors up to 625 VAC at 577 Amps (800 HP), from 0 to 60 Hz.
Motor Testing services per IEEE 112 include:
- Load Testing
- Locked Rotor Testing
- Core Loss Testing
- Temperature Testing
- Voltage Imbalance
- Current Imbalance
- Efficiency Calculations
Clark’s Motor Testing Experience includes:
- Traction
- AC/DC Brushless

- Slip ring Induction Motor
- Single phase Synchronous Motor
- Separately excited DC motors
Dynamometer Motor Testing
In addition to our MA motor testing system we also feature dyno testing for large motors. The dyno test lab measures power, force or moment of force. The power of a motor, engine or other rotating prime mover is calculated by measuring rotational speed and torque at the same time.
The dyno can also indicate how much torque and power are necessary to operate pumps and other driven machines. In these cases, the appropriate tool is a “driving” dynamometer. Dynos that are not designed to be driven are called “absorption” or “passive” dynamometers. Some dynos can absorb or drive depending on testing needs. These are called “universal” or “active” dynamometers.
AC motor dynamometers and DC motor dynamometers are key to the development and testing of electric motors. The dyno allows for variable and full load testing necessary to ensure optimal function.
Testing Services
Powertrain and Gearbox
Clark Testing has been in the powertrain & gearbox testing business for over 20 years. Over that time we have tested products ranging from small components such as starters and air motors to transmissions and axles in excess of 2000 horsepower. ciency for anything from heavy off-road industrial equipment to high performance motorized competition vehicles.
Fuels and Lubricants
The Fuels and Lubricants lab specializes in wear testing of products based on test rigs such as Four-Ball wear, Hydraulic Pump Wear, and FZG Gear. Clark Testing Fuels & Lubricants Laboratory is fully equipped to perform tests ranging from routine analyses to quality control.
Propulsion Simulation
Clark Testing’s Propulsion Dynamics Laboratory (PDL) provides system simulation for transportation and transit vehicles prior to field-testing or deployment. The lab fully integrates propulsion, braking, resistance and control systems, reproducing the environmental conditions a vehicle will encounter in the field.
Condition Monitoring
Clark Testing Condition Monitoring Services Laboratory (CMS Lab) provides oil analysis and diagnostics to enhance maintenance programs. Our CMS Lab assists maintenance professionals in the early detection of equipment problems, and in predicting future machine reliability. The CMS Lab provides oil, water glycol, and grease analyses to help maximize machinery performance, extend oil change intervals, and minimize oil-related disruptions in production schedules.
