CLARK TESTING

Industrial Hygiene

Since our initial organization in 1986, the Clark Testing Industrial Hygiene Laboratory has supported testing and quality assurance programs for both light and heavy industry, including aluminum and steel production and fabrication, petroleum refining, power generation, and consulting firms.

Industrial Hygiene

Since 1986 we have been accredited by AIHA-LAP, LLC (American Industrial Hygiene Association Laboratory Accreditation Programs), laboratory ID #100355, for metal, silica, organics, and anion analyses. In 2001, in our former incarnation as UEC Labs, we achieved accreditation to the ISO/IEC 17025:2005 international standard, making Clark IH Lab one of the first labs in the nation to receive this accreditation. Our AIHA-LAP, LLC accredited scope of testing includes:
  • Hexavalent Chromium, by IC
  • Organic Solvents, by GC
  • Crystalline Silica (alpha-Quartz), by XRD
  • Metals, by ICP
  • Beryllium, by ICP and GFAA
  • Gravimetric, by Balance
  • PNAs, by UHPLC
  • OSHA ID-215 v.2
  • NIOSH 1500, NIOSH 1501, NIOSH 1550, and NIOSH 4000
  • NIOSH 7500
  • NIOSH 7301 mod.
  • NIOSH 7301 mod. and NIOSH 7102
  • NIOSH 0500 and NIOSH 0600
  • NIOSH 5506 and OSHA 58 mod.
Metal Analysis

All samples are prepared by OSHA and NIOSH approved methods that include hot plate and microwave digestion. The samples are then analyzed by one of the following techniques:
  • Flame Atomic Absorption Spectrometry (AA)
  • Graphite Furnace Atomic Absorption (GFAA)
  • Inductively Coupled Plasma Spectrometry (ICP)
  • Mercury – Thermal Decomposition, Amalgamation, Atomic Absorption (CVAA)
Routine testing includes, but is not limited to:
  • Beryllium, ICP or GFAA
  • Lead, Cadmium, Chromium, Nickel, by ICP
  • Arsenic, ICP or GFAA
  • Mercury, by AA
  • Welding Fume Metals, by ICP
Clark will supply all of the media necessary for this sampling.
Silica Analysis

All samples are prepared and analyzed by X-Ray Diffraction according to NIOSH 7500, which enables the lab to quantitatively and qualitatively report alpha-Quartz, Cristobalite, and Tridymite in air and bulk samples.

Clark will supply all of the PVC Filters necessary for this sampling.

Organics Analysis

All samples are prepared by NIOSH and OSHA methods and analyzed by the following techniques:
  • Gas Chromatography (GC)
  • Ultra High Performance Liquid Chromatography (UHPLC)
Routine testing includes, but is not limited to:
  • Various Solvents - Benzene, Toluene, Xylene, Ethyl benzene
  • Ketones
  • Amines
  • Polynuclear Aromatic Hydrocarbons
  • Alcohols
  • Paraffin Wax Fume
  • Total Hydrocarbons
The Organics Lab also offers special project analysis tailored to meet clients' specific needs. Clark will supply all of the Sorbent Tubes or Passive Badges necessary for this sampling.
Anion Analysis

The IH Laboratory performs routine analysis of anions by Ion Chromatography. Common testing includes, but is not limited to:
  • Acids – Hydrochloric Acid, Nitric Acid, etc.
  • Sulfur Dioxide
  • Fluorides
  • Nitric Oxide/Nitrogen Dioxide
Additionally, we analyze Hexavalent Chromium by Ion Chromatography according to OSHA ID-215v2.

Clark will supply all of the Sorbent Tubes or Filter Cassettes necessary for this sampling.

Other capabilities include:

Other common tests performed by the IH Lab include:
  • Gravimetric – Total/Respirable Dust, Welding Fume Particulate
  • Extractions – Oil Mist, Benzene Soluble Fraction/Coal Tar Pitch Volatiles/Coke Oven Emissions
Clark would supply all of the Filter Cassettes necessary for this sampling.

As indicated above, Clark will supply all of the necessary media for sample collection. We will also:
  • Assist you in selecting the proper NIOSH or OSHA method necessary to carry out your sampling.
  • Help you determine what can be collected together on the same media.
  • Indicate special handling requirements.
